Finding the Landscape: Teaser Released.
The documentary ‘Finding the Landscape’, filmed on 16mm, follows photographer Chrystel Lebas as she returns to the landscape surrounding Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany in 2025. Originally invited by Passage Art-Residency-Programme to explore how the region has changed over time using a historic map from 1723, Lebas revisits the same area with a new exhibition that presents large-scale panoramic photographs of the landscape.
The film captures this re-encounter between artist and place, reflecting on how nature evolves and how human activity and climate change shape the environment. Through Lebas’ work, the project raises broader questions about global warming, the fragility of natural ecosystems, and the role of artists in documenting transformation.
The exhibition takes place inside the old stable house built in 1686 at Hofgestüt Bleesern, once the court stud of the Electors of Saxony. Today, the historic site is gradually being transformed into a cultural hub for the region.
This release marks the first teaser for the upcoming documentary, offering an initial glimpse into the artist’s creative journey. By documenting the exhibition and the surrounding landscape, Finding the Landscape invites viewers to see the environment through a different lens and reflect on the importance of observing, preserving, and recording the changing world around us.
